Refusal to comply in Vénissieux: the driver, shot by the police, is dead

The two police officers involved in the shootings were briefly taken into custody on Friday before being released.

The police have opened fire on a vehicle after refusing to comply on the night of Thursday August 18 to Friday August 19, in Vénissieux, in the suburbs of Lyon. The passenger died shortly after the shooting. The driver, seriously affected, “died as a result of his injuries” announced this Saturday, August 20 in the morning the Lyon prosecutor’s office in a press release.

The two police officers involved in the shootings were briefly taken into custody on Friday before being released. The IGPN, the police force, opened an investigation for “violence with weapons by persons holding public authority which resulted in death without the intention of giving it”.

At the same time, a judicial investigation was opened for “aggravated refusal to comply”. During the intervention, the police indicated that the vehicle had refused to submit to a check and had driven into them. One official was slightly injured in the legs.
