After building collapse in South Africa: 33 dead and 19 missing
81 construction workers were on the construction site at the time of the accident. There are many deaths – and people are still missing.
Eleven days after the collapse of a multi-story building in In South Africa, rescue workers have drawn a sad conclusion: of 81 construction workers who were on the construction site at the time of the accident last Monday, 33 people died, while 19 workers are still officially missing. A total of 29 people were rescued alive from the rubble.
Authorities suspended rescue work on Friday. The cause of the collapse of the residential building under construction in the small town of George remains unclear. President Cyril Ramaphosa has launched an investigation, the results of which are still awaited.
