Refugee accommodation in Munich-Riem: The tent city is still a long time coming – Munich

Just last Wednesday, the government of Upper Bavaria transferred 100 refugees to the city of Munich for accommodation. And finding a place to stay for all these people “was a bit like playing Tetris,” says Gerhard Mayer, who heads the Office for Housing and Migration at the town hall. Because the accommodations for refugees in Munich are currently “relatively full”. There are still some free places available so that those who have recently arrived can also be accommodated, says Mayer. But given the 100 people from Ukraine and 200 asylum seekers that the town hall has to accommodate every month, the pressure on the city’s accommodation system is enormous.
