Muslim communities in Recklinghausen and Castrop-Rauxel have received hate mail – and unfortunately that’s not all. The state security agency is investigating.
Two mosques in North Rhine-Westphalia received hate letters with burnt pages of the Koran and dog feces. As the police in Gelsenkirchen announced on Monday, Muslim communities in Recklinghausen and Castrop-Rauxel were affected. In both cases, charges of sedition were filed and state security is investigating.
Recklinghausen and Castrop-Rauxel: Mosques receive hate mail
According to the police, the unknown perpetrator or perpetrators each left an envelope in the mailboxes of the mosques. The shipments contained “among other things, burnt pages of the Koran, dog feces and hate letters.” The period of the crime in Castrop-Rauxel was between the day before last and last Friday. Rajko Kravanja, mayor of Castrop-Rauxel, published a photo of the seized hate message. “We must not allow ourselves to be driven apart! We must not allow a few (dangerous) weirdos to take advantage of these times to sow hatred and discord,” Kravanja wrote on Facebook.
His counterpart from Recklinghausen, Christoph Tesche, also condemned the acts. “We are all called upon to ensure that they do not succeed with prudence and a clear attitude,” WDR quoted him as saying.
