If you have Béghin Say sugar in your cupboard, you might have to bring it back. Several batches of this brand, sold in supermarkets and intended for making jams and jellies, were the subject of a recall procedure, we learned Tuesday from the sugar group Tereos and the repression of frauds. They indeed contain a pesticide at levels higher than the legislation
Three types of sugar are affected by this recall: the “Special Jams” white sugar, the “Special Jams with cane blond” and the “Special Jellies”. “We were able to block 1,000 tonnes of references concerned before delivery and currently there are 1,000 tonnes that are being recalled,” Tereos said.
A product classified as carcinogenic
“This recall procedure is due to the presence of ethylene oxide at levels higher than those authorized by European legislation”, indicated the Béghin Say brand. This ethylene oxide, a product classified as carcinogenic, “comes from the gelling agent manufactured by our supplier and entering into the composition of the products concerned by the voluntary recall”, specified the brand.
The group said they learned of the presence of this product on Friday and immediately launched the recall procedure: “the posters were in store on Saturday”. Béghin Say therefore calls on consumers who have purchased one of the products concerned not to consume it and to throw away the content. The list of affected lots is indicated on the reminder.conso.gouv.fr website.
