Due to numerous mishaps in 2021, the election to the Berlin House of Representatives will be repeated on Sunday. This time around 15,800 fewer people are called upon to cast their votes.

Around 2.43 million people are allowed to vote in the elections to the Berlin House of Representatives on Sunday. This means that there are around 15,800 fewer eligible voters in the repeat election than in the main election in September 2021, as the state returning officer announced on Saturday.

A polling card has already been issued for around 31 percent of those entitled to vote – for example for a postal vote or an early election on site.

According to the state returning officer, around 2.73 million people are entitled to vote in the repeat election for the district assembly, which also takes place on Sunday. This number is higher because 16 and 17 year olds as well as foreign EU citizens living in Berlin aged 16 and over can also vote here. According to the state returning officer, the Berlin district election offices closed the election lists on Friday evening.

Because of many breakdowns and problems in the Berlin House of Representatives elections in 2021, the Constitutional Court had ordered a complete re-election.
