More than 50,000 spectators were in the arena at the start of the European Championship when Germany’s handball players got off to a dream start. An enthusiastic audience of millions sat in front of the television sets.

The ARD miniseries “House of Glass” held its audience well during the sequel, but was overshadowed on Wednesday evening European Handball Championship. 3.50 million viewers (12.8 percent) tuned in to the exciting multi-part thriller with Stefanie Reinsperger, Morgane Ferru, Merlin Rose, Sarah Mahita, Götz Schubert and Juliane Köhler on Wednesday evening from 8:15 p.m. At the start the day before there were 3.85 million.

However, the broadcast of the opening game of the European Handball Championship in Düsseldorf was an absolute ratings magnet. The Germany-Switzerland match, which ended triumphantly for the German selection 27:14 (13:8), reached 7.60 million fans (28.8 percent) from 8:45 p.m.

The RTL entertainment program “Mario Barth reveals” with the subtitle “Bureaucracy, worse than ever!” 1.91 million (7.1 percent) wanted to see it. The regional crime drama “Wilsberg: Death in the Supermarket” on ZDFneo with Leonard Lansink, Oliver Korittke, Ina Paule Klink and Rita Russek attracted 1.83 million (6.7 percent) to tune in.

ProSieben had the comedy show “TV total” with Sebastian Pufpaff on offer – 1.28 million (4.7 percent) attended. The American spy comedy “Miss Congeniality” with Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, Michael Caine and Candice Bergen was shown on Kabel Eins – 1.02 million (3.9 percent) movie fans chose it.

840,000 people (3.2 percent) spent the evening with the show “Open the refrigerator! – The duel of the cooking professionals” on Sat.1. Hanna Reder, finalist at “The Taste” 2021, and professional chef Alex Kumptner competed against each other to see who could cook the best leftover meal.

Vox broadcast the crime series “CSI: Vegas” with Paula Newsome and Matt Lauria – 780,000 people (2.9 percent) sat in front of the screen. The RTLzwei documentary soap “Joey Kelly and Family – Roadtrip Panamericana” was watched by 610,000 people (2.3 percent). The first season of the Sat.1 early evening series “Die Landarztpraxis” ended with a solid score. The romance with Caroline Frier and Oliver Franck reached 1.03 million (4.7 percent) as of 7 p.m. and is set to continue.
