For the first time, the 5.25-meter-long XL version is also available as a seven-seater, which hardly anyone in Europe should be interested in. But in the USA there still seems to be a number of customers who want to play the child carrier just in case and want to fold out any emergency seats from the hold. This will also work from next year on with the new Range Rover, of which no one knows exactly when it will celebrate its premiere. Technical delays and the ongoing chip crisis are unlikely to make a market launch before mid-2022 likely.

Inside, the 5.05 meter long Range Rover is also happy despite the completely new development. Animated 13.7-inch instruments and a 13.1-inch portrait display, together with an enlarged head-up display, dominate the dashboard. Surprisingly, there are additional displays with diagonals of 11 or 13 inches in the second row, but none for the front passenger. This differentiates the Briton from many other luxury sedans and SUVs that will follow in the next two years with large displays for the front row. The comfort armchairs in the first row set standards, which are also available in the rear on request and then replace the normal three-seater bench. Fortunately, the anything but convincing four-cylinder plug-in hybrid that is used in the current Range Rover has been deleted. As a top model, the successor not only offers 395 kW / 510 PS and the six cylinders, which is a good image, but thanks to its 38.2 kWh battery it also has a purely electric range of around 100 kilometers. Many of the everyday routes should be covered without using the combustion engine. The small plug-in hybrid with a similar drive still has an output of 324 kW / 440 PS. In terms of price, the 250 hp basic diesel in the Range Rover starts at 121,200 euros.

However, those in charge at JLR make no secret of the fact that most customers rely on powerful eight-cylinder engines. The 4.4 liter V8 in the new Range Rover has an output of 390 kW / 530 PS and, like the six-cylinder, is coupled to the well-known eight-speed automatic from ZF. A six-cylinder with 400 hp follows a little later. With a top speed of 242 km / h, it is hardly slower than the V8 twin turbo, which is regulated at 250 km / h. With a consumption of 10.1 liters of super, it is two liters more economical over 100 kilometers than the image of the top model. The high-torque diesels get by with 7.6 liters of fuel. In 2024, the British will then add a purely electric version. A steering rear axle, which is standard on all versions and can turn the rear wheels by up to seven degrees, should provide additional agility.
