Ramatuelle loses a first legal round against helicopters

Party to the legal front against the incessant helicopter overflights, the town of Ramatuelle (Var) in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez lost a first round with the rejection of its request for interim relief. “By decision of July 5, 2021, the summary judge rejected the request directed by the municipality against the prefectural decree of June 25 regulating the movements of helicopters in the peninsula of Saint-Tropez”, writes the mayor Roland Bruno in a press release.

He had decided to file this urgent measure after a new prefectural decree which provides for 50 movements daily rotations against 40 for previous seasons, not counting unofficial movements, justified the mayor. An inhabitant of a housing estate located behind the beach of Pampelonne noted by minutes 90 passages of helicopters in one day above his house, according to the town hall.

The municipality wanted in particular to assert its “right to live in a balanced environment that respects health”. The mayor intends to continue this fight by “introducing an action in summary-suspension and on the merits”. Prized by a wealthy clientele, the helicopters and their incessant buzz have already been the target of legal actions from exasperated residents, but never from a municipality.
