Raistinger Baggersee: Fatal swimming accident – Starnberg

A 77-year-old man drowned in the Raistinger quarry lake on Saturday. According to the police, he was quickly rescued from the water and revived, but succumbed to the consequences of the swimming accident hours later in the evening in a hospital.

Dramatic scenes took place during the rescue from the water. The 77-year-old was swimming with his wife on Saturday afternoon, reports the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South. Suddenly he was no longer able to stay on the surface of the water and went under, according to the police report. The woman called for help, two 13-year-old boys who were nearby with their SUP board immediately rushed over, dived for the man and after a few minutes were able to pull him back up. Meanwhile, other bathers made an emergency call, the integrated control center alerted the rescue service and sent a helicopter with emergency doctors to the quarry pond in the south of Raisting.

The first responders brought the casualty ashore with the SUP board and began resuscitation under telephone guidance from the integrated control center until the emergency doctors arrived. The man, who was initially revived, was then taken to a hospital for further treatment. As is usual in such cases, the Weilheim criminal police took over the investigation to clarify the cause of death. It can currently be assumed that the man’s health problems led to the accident, according to a statement. The police did not provide any information about his origin at the weekend.

It’s not the first fatal swimming accident in the Fünfseenland this year. About two weeks ago, a pensioner drowned near Feldafing in Lake Starnberg. The 90-year-old was discovered floating lifeless on the water by bathers, attempts to revive her were unsuccessful. A 59-year-old pedal boat driver could only be rescued dead from the water after an accident on Lake Ammer in early May.
