Flooded streets and whole fields under water: In Austria, storms hit the Salzburg and Tyrol regions in particular – but nobody was injured in the flooding. In Bavaria, the situation on the Inn and Danube is easing.
After heavy rainfall in Austria, the flood situation is apparently calming down again. As the authorities reported, many water levels have dropped. The civil defense warnings for two regions in Tyrol have been lifted. Almost all communities in the Ötztal can be reached by car again, but not yet the main town of Sölden at the end of the valley. The federal road through the valley was closed on Monday.
Nobody was injured in the flood. Some of the water levels were at a level not seen in decades, fields were flooded, and in the Zillertal the Ziller carried enormous masses of water. Roads were still closed in some regions on Tuesday. Due to a mudslide between Innsbruck and Brenner, the Brenner railway line will probably not be passable until the evening.
The highest level was reached on the Inn in Kufstein shortly before midnight, the broadcaster ORF reported. Elmar Rizzoli, head of the Center for Crisis and Disaster Management, told ORF that slight increases due to renewed rainfall are not worrying.
Fields were flooded in Uttendorf in the province of Salzburg.
No reports of injuries
In the state of Salzburg, according to the hydrographic service of the state of Salzburg, the levels of the rivers are only partly at the reporting limit, reports the ORF. The road connections are open again. There is currently no information about injured persons. The emergency services had their hands full in the flood-affected areas during the night.
As the “Salzburger Nachrichten” writes, the state’s civil protection, the district authorities and the emergency services continue to monitor the situation closely, as it is still raining or raining again in some of the areas affected by the flooding.
Apex reached in Wasserburg
Flood warnings had also been issued in Bavaria for the Mühldorf am Inn and Rosenheim districts and for the city of Rosenheim on Monday. In Wasserburg am Inn, the authorities even feared having to declare the highest reporting level four. The flood news service of the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (HND) no longer assumes this, despite the constant rain.
In Wasserburg, this is no longer to be expected, the authority said. The water level there rose to 5.55 meters around two in the morning, and since then the water level has fallen again somewhat. The precautions for flood protection in the old town were reduced, as the city announced. In Rosenheim, where the Inn and its tributary Mangfall flow together, the water level at the Innspitz is just over four meters, which is reporting level 2, reports the Bavarian Radio (BR). Reporting level 3 should no longer be reached here.
In the evening, people watch the water level of the Inn from a bridge. The levels have been dropping again since morning.
In Passau the ascent flattens out
The HND still expected overflows on the Danube and on the rivers south of it today. In Passau, the level exceeded reporting level 3, but the increase leveled off by the morning, reports the BR. The expected maximum crest height of the Danube is expected around noon and has been revised down from nine to around 8.25 meters, a city official said BR-Inquiry.
Apparently there was no major damage or injuries in Bavaria. Four levels of notification are issued by the HND. At warning level 1, small overflows are to be expected, at level 4 built-up areas can be flooded on a large scale.
