Rail strikes: Union votes against indefinite strikes – Economy

The members of the EVG union speak out against indefinite rail strikes. In a ballot, 52 percent voted in favor of the arbitration award, according to which almost 200,000 railway employees would receive at least 410 euros more in wages per month and an inflation premium. Only 25 percent of the members approved. The result is not particularly flattering for the EVG leadership, which had spoken out in favor of the wage compromise. With the ballot, a particularly tough dispute in an already tense tariff year ends. In autumn, travelers are threatened with new train strikes: Then the train drivers’ union (GDL) negotiates wage increases. It calls for higher salary increases than the EVG.
