Rail strike: EVG plans new campaigns – economy

Another warning strike is coming to rail passengers. As can be seen, the EVG union is currently discussing several dates internally, including a day-long strike next Tuesday. Meanwhile, the railway company is trying to avert strikes by arbitrating the wage round with the union.

Last week, the union broke off negotiations with the company, which had already progressed well. Now she is preparing a vote by the members by the end of July on indefinite strikes in order to put pressure on the group. Such strikes could last several days at a time.

The EVG had already hinted that it could carry out shorter warning strikes beforehand in order to reinforce its demands. One option is a 24-hour labor dispute as early as next Tuesday. “The decision has not yet been made,” says the EVG. The union wants to announce actions as before at least two days in advance so that travelers can reschedule if possible.

The board of directors will meet on Thursday to decide on the goals of the industrial action. However, the decision on a specific strike does not have to be made by the entire board of the EVG, a vote in a smaller circle with, among others, the chairman and the two negotiators is sufficient.

Deutsche Bahn proposes an arbitration procedure to the EVG in order to prevent a new labor dispute. “This is intended to settle the collective bargaining conflict without further strikes during the holiday season,” the group said. “A solution at the table is in the interests of employees and passengers.”
