Rafael Nadal eliminated from the Turin Masters, Alcaraz will remain world number 1

Rafael Nadal was officially eliminated from the Turin Masters on Tuesday evening. Having lost his first two matches in just two sets, the Spaniard’s chances of slipping through to the semi-finals were very slim. The only hope was that the American Taylor Fritz won against Casper Ruud in straight sets, but the latter directly won the first round thus stopping all hopes of the world number 2.

With this elimination of Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz (19) will finish the year at the top of the world hierarchy and thus become the youngest player to finish the season at the top of the general classification.
