Two fires in apartments in Paris kill four people

Two fatal fires took place on the night of Monday April 29 to Tuesday April 30 in Paris, Agence France-Presse learned from police sources and the Paris prosecutor’s office.

At least three people were found dead shortly before 8 a.m. in an attic apartment on 7e floor of a building located on boulevard desItaliens, in the 2e district, in the center of the capital. According to initial information, the fire broke out between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

The victims “were unable to get out through the window because of the anti-intrusion bars to prevent burglaries coming from the roof”district mayor Ariel Weil reported to AFP. “Around ten other people housed on the same floor were saved by firefighters who intervened through the roof”added the city councilor.

According to Mr. Weil and the police source, the possibility of a gas leak causing the fire is being considered. An investigation was opened and entrusted at this stage to the Paris Center police station, the prosecution told AFP.

One person dead in the 15th arrondissement

Furthermore, the Paris prosecutor’s office added that it had been informed of another fatal fire that occurred in the 15e district, in the southwest of the capital. “A person aged around sixty was found dead, another is in absolute emergency and two are in relative emergency”detailed the prosecution.

The deceased person is a woman, according to another police source, who specifies that “the fire appears to have broken out” in his accommodation. An investigation into the causes of death and injuries was entrusted to the police station of 15e borough.
