As part of the search for the fugitive EX-RAF members, emergency services searched another building in Berlin this morning. The Verden public prosecutor’s office said it was “close” to Garweg.
A spokeswoman for the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA) confirmed this morning that another building was currently being searched in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain in connection with the search for Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg. This is a property on Corinthstrasse.
The apartment is being forensically examined
A search had already taken place on Grünberger Strasse on Sunday evening, in which, according to the spokeswoman, SEK officers were also involved. No one was found in the apartment there, “consequently there are no arrests,” said a spokeswoman. She did not say whether any traces were found that could help investigators search for dust and Garweg. However, the apartment on Grünberger Strasse will continue to be examined forensically, which could still take days.

Police confiscate construction trailer during search
On Sunday morning, emergency services searched a left-wing, alternative Berlin trailer site on Markgrafendamm around two kilometers from the apartment. A caravan was confiscated and transported away on Monday night for further investigations. Koray Freudenberg, senior public prosecutor in Verden, told NDR Lower Saxony on Sunday evening that the trailer was “highly likely” to be accommodation in which Garweg lived at least temporarily. According to Freudenberg, Garweg is said to have used the code name “Martin” on the site.
Garweg and dust continue to flee
Freudenberg was unable to say how long or until when the person being sought might have lived there. Nevertheless, the investigator was optimistic that Garweg would soon be successful in his search. “We assume that we are close,” said Freudenberg. A total of ten people were briefly detained during the operation in Berlin-Friedrichshain in order to determine their identity. However, the two ex-RAF terrorists Staub and Garweg were not there. The search for Daniela Klette’s suspected accomplices continues.
LKA, BKA, SEK, police: large-scale operation with 130 forces
According to an LKA spokeswoman, the joint operation by the LKA, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the Berlin police began at around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. Special forces were also deployed on the company premises. Initially it was said that the sounds of gunfire could also be heard. As the LKA confirmed to NDR Lower Saxony, these were supposed to have been noises when a door was opened. No weapons were fired, senior public prosecutor Freudenberg told NDR Lower Saxony.
Search for Garweg with current photos
The investigative authorities had met on Saturday, a few days after Arrest of ex-RAF terrorist Daniela Klette, aged seven current photos addressed to the population: The pictures “very likely showed Burkhard Garweg,” it said. An LKA spokesman told NDR Lower Saxony on Saturday that nothing could be said about the origin of the recordings for tactical reasons. Since the fleeing suspected criminals could be armed, the LKA Lower Saxony strongly advises against approaching the wanted people yourself. Instead, investigators are asking for information about the whereabouts of Garweg or dust under the Phone number (0511) 98 73-74 00.
