The Netflix film “Ehrengard”, in which Queen Margrethe II worked as a costume and set designer, will be released in mid-September.

Queen Margrethe II (84) has a new costume film by Netflix can live out her artistic streak – as a set and costume designer.

“Ehrengard – The Story of a Seduction” can be seen on the streaming service from September 14th. The film adaptation of the book by Karen Blixens (1885-1962) was directed by the Danish director and Oscar winner Bille August (74). The script was written by his son Anders August (45).

The film tells the story of Cazotte, a self-proclaimed love expert who is tasked with introducing a shy crown prince to the art of love and seduction. However, his plan fails – instead, amidst rival heirs and intrigue, Cazotte falls in love with the noblewoman Ehrengard.

Queen Margrethe II is “fascinated” by the stories of Karen Blixen

In a press release, Netflix quoted the Queen as saying, “Karen Blixen’s stories have always fascinated me with their aesthetics, imagination and the worlds I create with strong images. I’m excited to be working on this project allowed to participate.” She tried to “give a face to the fantastic world of Karen Blixen” by creating the equipment and costumes and she was “excited to see how the story of Ehrengard comes to life in this film”.

It was not the first time the Queen of Denmark had worked on a film set. She has already worked as a product designer for a Danish fantasy film. According to Netflix, Queen Margrethe II also engages in “a range of artistic pursuits,” including painting, printing, book illustration, set design and embroidery.
