Queen Elizabeth met the Sultan of Oman and his wife in Windsor. After the break, she takes on lighter tasks again.

Queen Elizabeth II (95) received the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq al Said (66), personally at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. The ruler from the Middle East was accompanied by his wife, Sayyida Ahad Bint Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Busaidiyah (51).

The monarch, wearing a light blue dress, a pearl necklace and a sapphire brooch, was shown smiling and shaking hands with the sultan in her palace.

This face-to-face meeting is a testament to the importance the UK attaches to its relations with the Gulf State. The former Minister of Culture and Heritage, who studied at Oxford, came to power after the death of his cousin Sultan Qaboos (1940-2020) last year.

Doctors ordered rest

The Queen continues to perform only light duties, including virtual and occasional face-to-face audiences. The royal doctors had previously ordered her to rest. On October 20, she had spent one night in the hospital to have tests.
