While her husband Prince Philip died on April 9, Queen Elisabeth II attended her first royal engagement four days later. The monarch took part in
the retirement ceremony of former Lord Chamberlain William Peel this Tuesday.

“Earl Peel had an audience with the Queen today, presented his wand and insignia of office of Lord Chamberlain and the insignia of Chancellor of the Royal Victorian Order and took his leave by waiving his appointment of Lord Chamberlain, when His Majesty invested him with the royal chain of Victoria, ”Buckingham Palace informed in a statement. The Lord Chamberlain is the highest official in the royal household.

Earl Peel oversaw the preparations for the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral – known as Operation Forth Bridge – before handing it over to his successor, former MI5 spy chief Baron Parker, just over a week before Prince Philip’s death.
