Put up for sale at 5 million euros, Karl Lagerfeld’s (ugly) apartment finds a buyer for much more

A concrete floor, sections of sandblasted glass that look like shower walls everywhere, yellowish colors and white, white and more white. If the Parisian apartment of fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld looks to us like an ugly hospital (but very well located), everyone clearly does not share the same opinion.

The futuristic three-room apartment of 260 m2 with a dressing room of more than 50 m2 (yes yes, 50 m2), was sold for ten million euros (11.1 million with costs) on Tuesday at auction in Paris. It was put up for sale at 5.3 million euros, according to the Althemis study.

Bird’s-eye view of the Seine and the Louvre

The sale followed several auctions on goods that belonged to the designer in 2021 and 2022. It took place at the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as online and by telephone. The right of access was conditional on a deposit of 1.06 million euros. The Althemis study did not wish to give the identity and nationality of the buyer.

Karl Lagerfeld, who died in February 2019, lived in this apartment for around ten years until his death. Located in a 17th century building on Quai Voltaire, in the heart of historic Paris, with a view overlooking the Seine and the Louvre Museum, the apartment has been completely redone by the designer in a futuristic style with concrete on the floor and sections of sandblasted glass.

A 50 m2 dressing room

The main room of 120 m2 includes numerous backlit library shelves. Its sleeping area overlooking the courtyard has a bedroom with removable partitions, backed by a dressing room of more than 50 m2.

This method of sale by auction before the chamber of notaries was decided by the Monegasque administrator responsible for the designer’s estate, who himself appointed one of his French counterparts, according to Althemis.
