Sexism scandal: Pub wanted to give free drinks to women with large breasts
The bigger the boobs, the more free drinks there are – a promotion apparently thought to be a good idea by a pub in Australia. The operators have since backed down.
One would think that the days when women were judged purely on their looks are long gone – and yet there are always incidents that show the opposite. The “Woolshed on Hindley” pub in Adelaide, Australia, revealed a questionable image of women with a discount campaign.
The restaurant wanted to attract female customers by offering them free drinks. Rule of thumb: the bigger the boobs, the more free drinks there were. Women with cup size A should get one drink, with size B there were two drinks, for bra size C even three drinks. The women in the bar should hang up their bras. What the pub’s operators apparently thought was a hilarious idea (or a resounding PR stunt) drew – not entirely unexpectedly – a lot of criticism.
Pub apologizes for promotion
“Wearing a bra is so uncomfortable, hang it up and just let go,” Woolshed on Hindley advertised the campaign on Facebook, according to Australian TV channel ABC. “The bigger the better.” However, this did not go down well with many guests and social media users. The comments spoke of “misogynist bullshit” and sexism. Australian health expert Samantha Battams, who studies gender-based violence, told ABC there was “no clearer example of objectification” of women: “I find it extremely sexist when a nightclub these days says women get free drinks based on the size of their breasts should.”

Cheers to the corner pub!
The pub has since apologized for the action. It was never the intention to do body shaming, according to a Facebook post. The campaign was canceled due to the negative feedback. But even with this apology, the pub owners showed that they had not understood the core of the problem, says expert Battams: “It’s not about women with smaller breasts being devalued. The point is that it’s very offensive to women , when they are judged that way and the focus is completely on the outside.”

Watch the video: the visitors to “The Roost Pub” in Birmingham probably didn’t expect that. Ed Sheeran appears in a good mood and promptly stands behind the dispenser. When playing billiards, the singer inspires the visitors with a spontaneous singing and dancing interlude.
