Psychological study: Even small children show compassion – Munich

It is sometimes said that children are little egoists, always looking out for their own benefit. Not true, says developmental psychologist Markus Paulus. He just published a new study that shows that even two-year-olds show compassion. He and his team invited children aged 6, 10, 14 and 18 months and their mothers to conduct behavioral experiments at the Ludwig Maximilians University. A total of 127 mother-child pairs were examined over a period of one and a half years. In the video call, Paulus, holder of the chair for developmental psychology and educational psychology, explains what insights he gained and what role the role model of parents plays. Paulus is currently in Aix-en-Provence for a research stay. However, his screen background shows the Zwilling-Scholl-Platz in Munich.
