Psychiatrist explains: Why does the big city make us mentally ill?

Theaters, museums, cafés and clubs: the big city offers countless advantages. But their residents also have a higher risk of becoming mentally ill. Psychiatrist Mazda Adli in Berlin is currently investigating why this is the case.

The psychiatrist and stress researcher Professor Mazda Adli is himself a committed city dweller. Born in Cologne, he has already lived in the metropolises of Tehran, San Francisco, Vienna and Paris. That had a big impact on him, but he was also lucky enough to be able to enjoy the advantages of city life. Not all city dwellers can do that. The city even makes some people mentally ill. Mazda Adli and his team are currently investigating how Berliners feel in their city and which places stress them out.
