As the “L’Equipe” reports that PSG’s transfers to Qatar will be closely examined by the UEFA Club Financial Control Chamber in the next few weeks. The French champion has been owned by the investor group “Qatar Sports Investments” since 2011. If UEFA considers the connection between the transferring and receiving club to be too great and finds that excessive transfer fees were paid to balance the balance sheet, the transactions may not be reflected in the books.

In the past, sponsorship agreements between the Parisians and Qatari companies were significantly devalued by UEFA in the balance sheets because these companies were classified as related parties to PSG. There was criticism of the Qatar transfers, among others, from LaLiga president Javier Tebas, who spoke of unfair competition: “We can do that too, find a satellite country that will buy our players in order to make big profits, and then buy all the players leave what we want. Is this the system we want? I don’t believe.”

PSG sees no problem with Qatar transfers from Verratti, Draxler & Co.

According to “L’Équipe”, PSG circles say that they are of the opinion that “there is no problem. QSI is not a shareholder of the buying clubs and the three players were sold at market price.” Even if the sources admit to understanding the argument of the doubters, since all parties have a connection to the state of Qatar. PSG was already fined 65 million euros in September 2022, of which 55 million was suspended, for violating UEFA’s so-called “break-even rule”. The Parisians must therefore get on track financially, otherwise they face a much harsher punishment. With just over 200 million euros, PSG has a record revenue, but the bottom line is that there is still a transfer loss of 146.5 million euros.
