Finally a medal again. On the way back to their old strength, the German eight team achieved a respectable success with second place at the European Championships. There was also reason to be happy in another DRV boat.

The long wait for a medal is over for the Germany eight. The parade boat of the German Rowing Association achieved second place at the European Championships in Szeged (DRV) made it onto the podium again at an internationally important regatta for the first time since silver in 2021 in Tokyo.

The crew around batsman Hannes Ocik (Schwerin) was only half a boat length behind world champion Great Britain at the finish. Despite the difficult conditions with a strong headwind, the fifth-place finisher in the World Championships offered a better performance than the disappointing fourth place at the start of the European Championships two days earlier.

The women’s double sculls also gained new courage on the way to Paris. Third place for the team led by batswoman Pia Greiten (Osnabrück) brought the DRV another European Championship medal in the 14 Olympic competition classes. Only the teams from Great Britain and Ukraine were faster.

Zeidler underlines his claim to a third European Championship title

Oliver Zeidler continues on the road to success. The one-man world champion from Munich moved into the final on Sunday (2:10 p.m.) with a victory in the semi-finals. Even Olympic champion Stefanos Ntouskos from Greece couldn’t keep up with the 27-year-old’s high starting pace and was a boat length behind at the finish. Zeidler thus underlined his claim to the third European Championship title after 2019 and 2021.

There has been notable progress in the men’s double sculls. In the semi-final victory over Italy, Jonas Gelsen and Marc Weber (Frankfurt/Main/Marburg) put on a confident performance and seem to be well on their way to becoming the absolute best in the world.
