Protests in Berlin: Culture Senator Joe Chialo suspends anti-Semitism clause – Culture

Berlin’s Senator for Culture Joe Chialo has repealed the controversial anti-discrimination clause for cultural funding. He explained this on Monday in the Culture Committee of the House of Representatives. The decisive factor was the objections of legal experts who feared a restriction on artistic freedom. In a subsequent statement from the cultural administration it is stated that the anti-discrimination clause will no longer be applied in grant notices. Chialo, who introduced the clause practically single-handedly in December, now promised that the new wording should be developed together with artists.
