Process in Hof: Prisoners are said to have mistreated cellmates – Bavaria

Since Tuesday, two prisoners have had to answer to the regional court there for abusing a cellmate in the Hof prison. According to the indictment, the two young men are said to have beaten their fellow prisoners with their fists, kicked them and poured hot water over them over a period of several weeks.

The attacks came in December 2021 and January 2022, when the detainees were not allowed to leave their cells due to a major corona outbreak. Neither walking in the yard nor eating together in the canteen was possible at that time. The prisoners could only shower every three to four days.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the 24 and 30-year-old alleged perpetrators wanted to punish their fellow prisoners. Among other things, they accused the 34-year-old of lying, poor personal hygiene and poor performance in physical exercises that they did every day in their shared cell. According to the indictment, this sports routine was similar to a military drill. The Hof district court has scheduled five days of hearings. According to the current status, a verdict is expected by the end of January.
