Before the massive rail strike starting this Thursday, the head of the German Locomotive Drivers’ Union (GDL) is being harshly criticized. Claus Weselsky previously spoke to the South German newspaper admitted a false statement. On Monday, the GDL boss justified the new strike with a lack of concessions and denied that independent mediators were proposing a reduction in working hours from 38 to 36 hours. In doing so, he misrepresented the proposal, which was still secret at the time. Deutsche Bahn announced that up to 80 percent of long-distance trains would be canceled on Thursday and Friday.
