Princess Märtha Louise of Norway wants to marry her fiancé Durek Verrett in August. But the couple cannot count on royal support for the celebrations.

Oslo – The countdown is on. On August 31st, Princess Märtha Louise von Norway (52) and her fiancé Durek Verrett (49) celebrate their wedding in Geiranger, Norway. The relationship between Crown Prince Haakon’s older sister (50) and the self-proclaimed spiritual healer and shaman Verrett caused controversy in Norway from the start.

“Neither financially nor in any other way”: The royal family stays out of the wedding of Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett

After the relationship between Princess Märtha Louise and American Durek Verrett became public in 2018, discussions arose that the princess, who also works as a spiritual healer, could use her title for commercial purposes. Märtha Louise refrained from doing so and announced in 2022, after her engagement to shaman Durek, that she would no longer take on official tasks for the Norwegian royal family.

And Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett are apparently on their own for their planned wedding in the summer. The Royal Court therefore does not participate financially or in any other way in the event.”

In 2010, 2011 and 2012, Princess Märtha Louise was a guest on Florian Silbereisen’s (42) TV show “Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights”. Princess Märtha Louise marries shaman Durek Verrett: “Celebrity wedding with royal flair”

Clear words from the Norwegian palace – Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett have to cover the costs of the wedding celebrations in the “Union” hotel in Geiranger themselves. However, this shouldn’t be a problem for the spiritual healer, whose customers are said to have included Hollywood stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow (51) and Renée Zellweger (54). After all, according to the shaman’s homepage, you have to shell out “US$2,000 (in person) or US$1,500 (virtual)” for a session with Verrett.

Royal expert Ole Jørgen Schulsrud-Hansen from TV2 It still promises a “celebrity wedding with a royal flair”. Such an event is associated with high costs, but “the wedding will attract great interest nationally and internationally. It can provide income to the couple getting married.”

King Harald V. (87), who is currently being treated in hospital in Malaysia, initially welcomed his future son-in-law graciously into the family. “We are pleased to welcome Durek Verrett to the family and we look forward to celebrating the big day with them.” But after the US spiritual healer accused the Norwegian royal family of racism last December, the tone changed – King Harald sent clear words to Princess Märtha Louise’s fiancé Durek Verrett.
