British royals have a lot of rules to follow. For example, they are not allowed to sign autographs from fans.

Princess Kate (41) has to follow some royal rules when appearing in public. The wife of heir to the throne Prince William (40), for example, politely refused to give an autograph. Royal fans had them, according to “People” magazine asked for it during a surprise visit to the Chelsea Flower Show in London. The Princess of Wales attended a children’s picnic at the world-famous garden show on Monday with around 100 children from ten different primary schools. Some of the children apparently asked Kate to sign sketches they made.

According to the report, the 41-year-old replied that she couldn’t write her name there, “but I can draw,” she offered instead, according to People magazine. Princess Kate then apparently drew a flower for a seven-year-old, a tree for another girl and a pond surrounded by plants for a third child. When asked again why she couldn’t sign, she explained, “My name is Catherine. I’m not allowed to write my signature, it’s just one of those rules.”

That’s why the royals don’t give autographs

As the British newspaper “The Sun” once reported, members of the royal family refrain from signing autographs to reduce the risk of someone trying to forge their handwriting. However, King Charles (74), Queen Camilla (75) and Co. are allowed to sign guest books on official occasions, for example.

However, the public usually does not go away empty-handed: after all, there are other ways for the royals to please the fans when they meet. Princess Kate and Prince William, for example, have smiled at other people’s cameras for selfies in recent months, apparently changing their previous attitude of avoiding such pictures.
