Princess Kate made a sporty appearance at Wimbledon: she even won the rally against tennis icon Roger Federer.

About a week before the start of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament, Princess Kate (41) and Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer (41) met on the sacred lawn. They hit a few balls together and watched the ball boys practice. The eight-time Wimbledon winner praised Kate’s tennis racket performance.

Federer praised the princess’ serve

The British princess is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. This is the official host of the famous tournament that starts on July 3rd. In advance, Kate, together with Roger Federer, drew attention to the work of the ball children. On the Instagram page of the heir to the throne a short video of the meeting was released on June 25th. It said: “The skills and commitment of the ball boys and girls help to make the championships so special.”

“I have to work on my throwing technique,” Federer commented humorously on the clip. In it you can see how he competes in a double match against the princess – and loses. The former tennis pro praised the princess: “The serve looks good.” With eight individual titles, Federer is the record holder in tournament history. “Wimbledon is known for its incredibly professional ball boys and girls,” Kate said. “It’s unbelievable how much work goes behind the scenes.”

Each year around 1,000 children aged 11-13 from schools near Wimbledon take part in training sessions, of which a quarter are selected to take part in the tournament. “I’m really impressed with how much effort and training it takes to be a ball kid during the championships,” said Federer. He said he used to be a ball kid in Basel too. The full film can be viewed on the Wimbledon tournament YouTube page.

Good friendship

Roger Federer and Princess Kate have known each other for years, their families are said to be good friends, reports the British “Daily Mail”. For example, Federer attended the wedding of Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton (39) in 2017 and is said to have even given Prince George (9) a private tennis lesson.

As the British “Daily Mail” continued, Kate also made a good fashion statement on the tennis court. She presented the current Wimbledon collection and showed off her well-trained figure in a sleeveless polo shirt and a skirt by Adidas. Her sneakers are from the Babolat x Wimbledon 2023 collection.
