Prince William (39) and Duchess Kate (40) left for their week-long tour of the Caribbean earlier this week. The journey takes her to Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas. It is the couple’s first official trip abroad since the beginning of the corona pandemic. In addition to meetings with important personalities and heads of government, other exciting activities are also on the agenda. In Belize, for example, he went underwater to dive with sharks and in Jamaica, William proved his skills on the soccer field. These are the highlights of the royal Caribbean trip so far.
Chocolate, hip swing and scuba dive in Belize
Things started for William and Kate on Saturday (March 19) with the Arrival in Belize. At the airport, the couple were greeted by Governor General Froyla Tzalam, her husband and an honor guard. Prince William wore a light blue suit, Duchess Kate opted for a lace dress in blue, the national color of Belize. This was followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Johnny Briceno and his wife.
On day two of their trip Kate and William visited the Che’il cocoa farm in Belize. There they were allowed to make their own chocolate. “I think our kids will be very jealous,” the Duchess joked. A visit to the village of Hopkins was also on the agenda. There, William and Kate celebrated the Garifuna cultural festival with locals and proved while dancing together her sense of rhythm. While William was dressed in dark blue chinos and shirt, Kate wore a colorful Tory Burch dress.
On day three of their trip, the Duke and Duchess visited Cambridge the ancient Mayan ruins of Caracol. With an archaeologist, they ran up to the top of the ruins. They then visited the British and Belizean troops in the jungle. Both opted for casual outfits in natural colors for the trip.
In the evening it was a bit more glamorous: at one Reception of the Prime Minister Against a breathtaking backdrop, Kate wowed in a fuchsia gown by The Vampire’s Wife label.
To conclude her stay in Belize, William shared his special highlight on Instagram: a dive in the second largest barrier reef on earth. The underwater images show the 39-year-old and his wife in wetsuits swimming with sharks and exotic fish. “It has been a privilege to see firsthand the work of the world’s leading marine conservation worker,” wrote William, who has been president of the UK underwater club since 2014.
Reggae and Soccer in Jamaica
After three eventful days in Belize, Prince William and Duchess Kate continued to Jamaica on Tuesday in the government plane RAF Voyager. After an outfit change on the plane, they were given a celebratory reception at the airport. Kate and William once again chose clothes in the national colors of Jamaica: She beamed in the yellow dress by Roksanda and he wore a green tie with his black suit. In the capital, Kingston, they then met Governor General Sir Patrick Linton Allen and his wife.
Her next appointment was with the Royals in the footsteps of reggae music. In Trench Town, William and Kate visited a cultural center and met with Jamaican athletes. At the meeting with the Olympic bobsleigh team, the two insisted on taking a seat in the bobsleigh. When he visited a football field, the future heir to the throne then showed his skills on the ball.
The couple also visited the former home of reggae legend Bob Marley (1945-1981). Today it serves as a cultural center. The two clearly had fun drumming with Jamaican musicians.
On Wednesday evening, the governor general of Jamaica is to host a dinner in honor of the royal guests. Prince William is expected to address the protests and slavery reparations in a speech here. When the couple arrived, hundreds of demonstrators had protested in the Jamaican capital.
This is how the royal Caribbean trip continues
The last stop of their Caribbean trip takes Prince William and Duchess Kate to the Bahamas. They are scheduled to travel there on Thursday (March 24) before returning to the UK on Saturday.
A cultural performance in New Providence and a visit to the Abaco Islands, devastated by Hurricane Dorian, are on the agenda. They also want to visit a coral farm in Grand Bahama, which was awarded the Earthshot Prize created by Prince William.
Protests are also expected in the Bahamas. The local National Committee for Reparations has according to the British newspaper “Independent” previously published a letter demanding a “full and formal apology from the British Royal Family for their role in slavery”.
