Prince Harry is “Counselor of State” and could therefore represent King Charles. Now discussions about it have arisen again.

In Great Britain, discussions have broken out again about whether Prince Harry (39) can continue to be “Counselor of State”. Theoretically, he should represent his father, King Charles (75), even though he has moved his primary residence to the USA.

However, the position of State Councilor obviously cannot be taken away from him so easily. Charles can Prince Harry according to Mail Online only be removed as “Counsellor of State” if he consults Parliament. As the newspaper further reports, citing experts, the Duke of Sussex cannot resign from his position as deputy. This means that Prince Harry can technically still represent the monarch when he is on an official trip abroad or is ill. Charles is currently being treated for cancer and does not perform any official public duties.

The people who can currently represent the king as “counselor of state” include his wife, Queen Camilla (76), as well as the first four adults in line to the throne who are at least 21 years old. These would be heir to the throne Prince William (41), his cousin Princess Beatrice (35), her father, Prince Andrew (64), who fell into disgrace because of his scandals, and Harry, who has been living in the USA since 2020.

Change would happen quickly

Constitutional expert Craig Prescott told Mail Online that there could be a quick change if Buckingham Palace turns to Parliament about Harry. Similar to 2022, when a change regarding “counselors” was approved. At that time, King Charles had Princess Anne (73) and Prince Edward (60) added to the list of members of the royal family who could represent him.

The debate over whether Harry can be one of the Councilors of State has arisen again as it has now been revealed that official documents show that he has now moved his primary residence to the USA. Harry lives with his wife Duchess Meghan (42) and their children – Prince Archie (4) and Princess Lilibet (2) – in Montecito, California.

The now published documents from the British commercial register Companies House for Harry’s travel organization “Travalyst”, founded in 2019, list the United States as the place where he “usually resides”. Previously, the United Kingdom was the main place of residence. The change for Harry is backdated to June 29, 2023. In June 2023, Harry and Meghan moved out of Frogmore Cottage, their former official home in Great Britain.
