It was not unusual to see the Imperial State Crown, the crown Queen Elizabeth II wore for decades at the State Opening of Parliament, resting on a table during this week’s ceremony. The Queen has been wearing a far lighter tiara for the occasion since 2019. But the fact that it was not the monarch but her son Charles who sat on the throne next to her was a first. And yet it was a sight to which one will have to get used to.
