Slash, guitarist for Guns N’ Roses, has long since put his excesses behind him. Here he talks about a lot of Jack Daniel’s, electrocutions on stage and special encounters with pop greats.
On September 29, 1987, Guns N’ Roses gave their first concert in Germany in Hamburg. What memories do you have of it?
I remember some people on the street staring at us in horror. Their looks seemed to say: “It would be better if you quickly disappear from our beautiful city.”
Did you think that was bad?
The rejection always spurred us on. When others in the restaurant shook their heads, we immediately ordered another round. By the way, at second glance, Hamburg wasn’t all that stuffy.
