Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla welcomed the Year of the Tiger in Chinatown and met with members of the community.

Many Asian countries welcomed the Year of the Tiger on February 1st. There was also a big parade in London, in which the Royals were present, among others.

Charles and Camilla “wake up” the tigers

In London’s Chinatown, Prince Charles (73) and Duchess Camilla (74) took part in the Lunar New Year celebrations. Even quite active: they “woke up” the performers, dressed as dancing tigers. They shared on Twitter Video of the event.

They then strolled through Chinatown, perusing delicacies at a local supermarket, visiting a Chinese restaurant and trying their hand at calligraphy.

Then the couple split: Prince Charles took part in a conversation about hate crimes against Chinese and East and Southeast Asian communities. Meanwhile, Duchess Camilla looked at the Chinese Information and Advice Center.

Not the first time

It wasn’t the first Chinese New Year the couple had attended. Also in February 2015 it was in Chinatown. Prince Charles has long had an interest in Chinese art and culture. Her 2017 trip also took her to Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.
