Queen Elizabeth II has stripped Prince Andrew of his title and title of “His Royal Highness”. How are things with Fergie and the daughters?
On Thursday (January 13) has communicated to Buckingham Palacethat Prince Andrew (61) has returned his military titles and royal patronage to Queen Elizabeth II (95). He is no longer allowed to call himself “His Royal Highness”. Does this also have consequences for his family? With ex-wife Sarah (62), the Duchess of York, he has daughters Princess Eugenie (31) and Princess Beatrice (33).
Like an employee of Duchess Sarah the Daily Mail explained, Duchess of York is “her title since her divorce and it will remain so”. Because Andrew will remain the Duke of York, so this is “no problem”. Sarah Ferguson can therefore remain the Duchess of York until she marries a new man. As the British newspaper further reports, Eugenie and Beatrice will continue to bear their titles “Princess” and “Royal Highness”.
York fights back
Meanwhile, however, demands are being made that Prince Andrew should also relinquish his title as Duke of York. Rachel Maskell, 49, Member of Parliament for York Central, said it was “unsustainable” for him to retain his ducal title and connection to York. “The connection with York must be ended,” said the politician.
The prince received this title at his marriage to Fergie in 1986. Traditionally, the monarch’s second son becomes the Duke of York. Before Andrew, Queen Elizabeth’s father George VI. (1895-1952) and her grandfather George V. (1865-1936) this title.
Prince Andrew faces civil litigation in the United States
Prince Andrew faces a civil lawsuit in the United States. A judge recently ruled that Virginia Giuffre, 38, would not dismiss a lawsuit against the royal. She accuses Andrew of sexually abusing her when she was a minor. He denies the allegations.
If an out-of-court settlement is not reached, a trial could probably be pending in the fall. The statement from the royal family states that Prince Andrew will defend himself against the lawsuit as a “private citizen”.
