Prey and Dead Space get Unreal Engine 5 competition with Quantum Error • Eurogamer.de

Sony has released a new teaser for upcoming ‘cosmic horror’ title Quantum Error. The game was first announced in 2020 and, according to the trailer, should appear “soon” – also on platforms other than the PS5, by the way.

The video at least gives me hearty dead space and prey vibes. You haven’t seen any splatter so far, but moving through a futuristic facility as a fireman reminded me a little of Isaac Clarke’s adventures on the Ishimura – here too you were more of a civilian who was there to work than a super soldier or scientist.

Sony describes the game as a mix of first and third person shooter. It’s best to take a look for yourself, the teaser is cut too quickly for me personally to be able to derive much from it.

“When the Monad Quantum Research Facility – 30 miles off the coast of CA – is attacked by an unknown entity and set on fire and placed in lockdown, an emergency call goes out to the Garboa Fire Station in San Francisco,” according to the game’s description (thanks , The sixth axis).

“Fire Chief Sturgis is helicoptering you, Capt. Jacob Thomas, your partner Shane Costa and a crew to the Monad facility.”

“Your mission is simple: save as many lives as you can from the complex and make it out again. However, what begins as a rescue mission quickly descends into darkness when you arrive and realize that all is not as it seems.”

Sounds interesting so far. My only regret was that one of every two sentences a character said in the trailer had to be “I have a bad feeling about this” – the ultimate sci-fi horror cliché.

On the official website of the developer some more meaningful images can be seen: In addition to the axe, protagonist Jacob uses, among other things, a circular saw to open a wall and a fire hose to put out fires. I always find such approaches to solving problems with tools in games an interesting alternative to the ubiquitous Space Marine.

Another image shows a mutant human opponent stuck somewhere between Dead Space Necromorph and Rainbow Six Extractions Aliens.

Teamkill Media is a small team founded by four brothers in 2016 and has only developed another game with Kings of Lorn. So don’t expect the next Dead Space right here.

The game doesn’t have a release date yet. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
