According to new findings from the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office, a suspected smuggler who has already been arrested is also said to have been a supporter of the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS). An arrest warrant has now been issued against the man for membership in a foreign terrorist organization, the authorities announced on Tuesday in Munich.
According to investigators, he is said to have, among other things, distributed propaganda videos on the Internet that call for participation in IS and the so-called jihad, the “holy war” against people who, from IS’s perspective, are infidels.
According to the report, the Syrian is said to have joined the militia in October 2016. Until 2018, he worked as an armed fighter in various positions in Syrian cities such as Abu Kamal and Raqqa. He is said to have entered Germany by October 2022 at the latest and continued to be active for IS. “He is said to represent an extremist-Islamist ideology that sees armed jihad as a legitimate means of asserting ultra-conservative Islamist interests and rejects the values of the free-democratic basic order,” writes the public prosecutor’s office.
According to the information, the arrest warrant dates from last Friday. On Monday, detectives from the Middle Franconia police headquarters brought the man before the investigating judge at the Munich Higher Regional Court. He ordered the execution of pre-trial detention.
