Premiere in Vienna: Peter Handke’s “Dialogue” in the Academy Theater – Culture

Not because of a nursing shortage! There may be a lack of staff elsewhere in hospitals and retirement homes – but certainly not on this evening at the Academy Theater in Vienna. At the Burgtheater in Vienna, to which the Academy Theater belongs, everything was always ordered a little more lavishly, and so the Silver Agers who have to be looked after on the stage have a whole entourage of nurses at their disposal. In general: all these people! Where the text, which is being premiered here, is actually exactly what the title says: a “dialogue”, a dialogue between two people, between two “special fools”, as it was once called – if not a conversation by the author Peter Handke with himself. A self-examination, remembering and reflecting, a self-positioning of the poet, who celebrated his 80th birthday this week, a questioning of everything that constitutes his storytelling.
