Kafka and Munich: a twisted story – Munich

Between “rage” and “failure”: Even though the writer Franz Kafka only visited the city of Munich a few times, his stays left their mark on his life and work. A twisted story in four chapters.

There is often an oppressive gap between desire and reality. Franz Kafka once had to experience this with regard to Munich. At first, the city of art and literature seemed so attractive to him that he even wanted to choose it as a second place to study in 1902. But his native Prague wouldn’t let him go: “This little mother has claws,” complained Kafka. However, he also had to realize that Munich could also extend sharp claws.
