Jürgen Klopp missed a win in the Premier League in his last away game as Liverpool FC manager. In a turbulent game, the third-placed team in the English football championship only managed a 3-3 (2-1) win against Champions League contenders Aston Villa despite a 3-1 lead.

An own goal from Villa’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez (2nd minute) as well as the goals from Cody Gakpo (23rd) after minutes of checking by the video assistant and Jarell Quansah (48th) had apparently put the Reds comfortably in the lead.

Youri Tielemans (12th) scored the interim equalizer for hosts Aston Villa, who are still hoping to qualify for the premier class next season. The supposed goal in the second half to make it 2-3 by Ollie Watkins (52nd) was disallowed after a video review due to a previous offside position by former Leverkusen player Leon Bailey. In the final phase, substitute Jhon Duran (85th/88th) scored for the fourth-placed team and saved the point.

Liverpool had previously secured participation in the Champions League. In the last game of the season, the outgoing Klopp and the Reds will host Wolverhampton Wanderers next Sunday.
