National player Kai Havertz stays in London but changes clubs. He addressed emotional words to the fans of his previous employer FC Chelsea.

Kai Havertz really wanted to say goodbye to the Chelsea fans. He did it “with a heavy heart,” as the 24-year-old German international soccer player wrote in an open letter to Blues supporters.

Chelsea have become a second home for him, wrote Havertz, who is changing clubs in London and has signed a long-term contract with Arsenal.

He switched to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2020, and Chelsea are said to have paid Bayer 04 Leverkusen 80 million at the time. His contract with the club, which he had led to triumph in the Champions League in 2021 with his goal in the final, was valid until the end of June 2025. Arsenal reportedly paid €70m for the German signing.

“Today I find myself at a crossroads where words cannot describe my feelings,” he wrote to Chelsea fans on the day the transfer was announced. Looking back over the three years, he feels nothing but pride, gratitude and sporting success.

Thanks to a leaked video, Havertz was able to hear words of praise for his new club online that afternoon, before Arsenal FC confirmed the commitment in the evening, as did Havertz himself. It annoyed him that Chelsea fans hadn’t heard from him first, Havertz wrote what he thinks about his departure. That’s not his style.
