Polygon, the Ethereum scaling project, has officially proposed changes for the upcoming Polygon 2.0 upgrade.
Polygon 2.0 was first released in June. The goal is to create a comprehensive network of layer 2 interconnections. which is powered by zero-knowledge proofs
Polygon Labs recently released three Polygon Improvement Proposals (PIPs) detailing the outline of changes for the upgraded Polygon 2.0 architecture and updates to the native token.
The team asked the community to help make suggestions about the proposal. This will be done after approval through a regulatory vote. The final Polygon 2.0 upgrade is expected next year.
The first of the three proposals is Polygon 2.0’s PIP-17 “Phase 0.” The main focus of this proposal is to ensure that end users and developers No action will be required on the Polygon PoS network and Polygon zkEVM available during upgrade
The second proposal, PIP-18, will propose the implementation of the POL token, which aims to replace the existing MATIC token as a gas token and staking asset in the ecosystem.
The third proposal, PIP-19, calls for upgrading the native gas token on Polygon PoS from MATIC to POL in a manner that ensures maximum compatibility. This ensures that upgrading to a new token does not change the smart contracts on Polygon PoS in terms of compatibility. The objective is to ensure that the code properties of the upgraded POL token remain intact.
