His colleague Adam Raczek has resigned, and now “Police call 110” inspector Vincent Ross is investigating alone on the German-Polish border. In his new case, two dead bodies and a lot of mental suffering await him.

  • Oppressive social study about financial hardship and existential fears

What’s the matter?

Antoni Mazur (Frank Jendrzytza) was traveling with a group of pilgrims on the Way of St. James, which also leads through Brandenburg. Now the Pole is shot dead in a gravel pit. The first at the crime scene is the district police officer Karl Rogov (Frank Leo Schröder). A difficult character who is said to have a problem with bosses. Chief Inspector Vincent Ross (André Kaczmarczyk), however, recognizes that Rogov can be useful to him in the investigation. Together, the two men find out that Mazur was in financial trouble and threatened with bankruptcy. The lawyer Udo Schick (Bernhard Schir) and the debt advisor Jonathan Hueter (Godehard Giese) are said to have put him under massive pressure in this context. And Mazur wasn’t the only client they practiced on. Schick is targeted by the investigations. As an alibi, he names his daughter, whom he claims to have met at the time of the crime. However, she is in the group of pilgrims with whom the victim was traveling.

Why is The God of Bankruptcy Case Worth It?

The film gives a very impressive emotional account of what it means for people when they get into a financial crisis and find their existence in ruins. Not knowing where the money is supposed to come from, how the bills can be paid and, moreover, the insolvency administrator who is constantly exerting pressure is breathing down your neck. Screenwriter Mike Bäuml collected numerous stories of people who have slipped into bankruptcy during the corona pandemic. In times of inflation, energy crisis, Ukraine war and housing shortage, existential and financial worries are more relevant than ever. Bäuml has succeeded in creating a sensitive but also depressing social study in which everyone involved only loses in the end.

What bothers?

Like the “crime scene” in the previous week, this “police call 110” was shot in the summer of 2022. The sun shines continuously, it is obviously burning hot and everyone is sweating. Broadcasting the films in January or February is a bit unfortunate in terms of timing.

The commissioner?

After the departure of his colleague Adam Raczek (Lucas Gregorowicz), Vincent Ross initially investigates alone. In this case, however, he now gets the local police officer Karl Rogov to assist him once. The unequal duo proves to be astonishingly efficient, and one or the other beautiful dialogue, such as this one, is also relaxing on a personal level:

Rogov: “Why does someone like you go to the police?”
Ross: “Because everything has to change.”
Rogov: “Have fun then.”

As a gender-fluid investigator with a sensitive, analytical manner, Vincent Ross has already brought a new image to the “police call” that did not previously exist in the crime series, but is good for it.

Turn on or off?

Recently, numerous veteran “Polizeiruf” actors have said goodbye, and Verena Altenberger, alias Elisabeth Eyckhoff, will soon be leaving. Vincent Ross is a new investigator with a lot of potential. Don’t miss his debut solo performance.
