Politics and migration: Attention, agitators – media

For a few days now, the political debate in Germany has been characterized by an astonishing unleashing of language on the subject of migration. Olaf Scholz’s big one Mirror-Interview from last Saturday, in which he called for “a certain toughness” in asylum policy and emphasized on the cover: “We finally have to deport people on a large scale”, was apparently understood, especially by leading CDU and CSU politicians, as a license to do so to abandon the rhetorical decorum that has hitherto prevailed in speech and to present their migration policy demands in a new form of plain language. And media outlets whose job it would actually be to critically question this shift are making themselves available as keywords in podcasts or clearing their front pages.
