Police pick up 21 migrants after smuggling – Bavaria

The police picked up 21 migrants on Autobahn 6 near Leuchtenberg. According to the first interrogations, the 21 men between the ages of 16 and 37 were smuggled in a truck from Croatia to Germany, the police said on Sunday. There are 19 Indian and two Bangladeshi citizens. They were asked by their two truck drivers at the Wittschau motorway parking lot in Upper Palatinate to leave the vehicle.

A driver reported to the police early on Saturday morning that people were on the hard shoulder of the A6. The federal police discovered the men when it was below zero and in the dark and took them to a police inspection. They had an “arduous odyssey” behind them that lasted more than a month and took them from Bangladesh and India via the Middle East to Turkey and from there via the Balkans to Germany. The men are still in good health. They suffered from cold and anxiety in the truck and were transported tightly packed between the loads.

The young people were handed over to the Neustadt an der Waldnaab youth welfare office, and the adult migrants were forwarded to the “anchor center” in Regensburg. The police are now trying to identify the drivers and those behind the smuggling.
