There is a Rostock without Sascha Bukow: After the departure of the popular commissioner, his colleague Katrin König is investigating with a new partner. In their first case, they deal with a family tragedy.

What’s the matter?

The bodies of the single mother Rieke Sommer and her son David are found in a family home. The woman was stabbed multiple times. The 16-year-old was paralyzed from the neck down and bedridden after a mountain bike fall. He died as a result of a stroke because no one changed his IV. Commissioner Katrin König (Anneke Kim Sarnau) and her colleagues question the ex-husband of the dead man. He had left the family after the boy’s accident. But numerous men with whom the 38-year-old has arranged to meet online are also targeted by the investigators. And there is the married couple Jule and Holger Genth. Both were friends with Rieke Sommer. The Genths are expecting children and have already taken in two foster children: Emma Pettke (Paraschiva Dragus) and Max Wagner (Alessandro Schuster). Then 16-year-old Max suddenly disappeared.

Why is the “You can’t choose your family” case worth it?

The episode marks a new beginning for the police call from Rostock. In January, actor Charly Hübner resigned after twelve years as Commissioner Sascha Bukow. His loss still weighs heavily – with the viewers and especially with his colleague Katrin König. She is now getting a new partner, although the constellation seems a bit strange at first: It is Bukow’s half-sister Melly Böwe. She had a short guest appearance in the “Polizeiruf” episode “Sabine” last year. Böwe is portrayed by theater star Lina Beckmann – who is married to Charly Hübner in real life. For this reason, the 41-year-old did not want to accept the role at first. In the end she said yes. It’s a chance for the police call. The future in Rostock belongs to two strong women. This case provides a first foretaste of this.

What bothers?

After the moving “crime scene” on Easter Monday, this “police call” also comes up with broken family structures behind an apparently perfect facade. Drug abuse, prostitution, traumatized young people, foster children who are passed from one family to another: the themes of the film weigh heavily and are not suitable for a relaxed evening in front of the TV.

The commissioners?

It was not planned for them to investigate this case together: Melly Böwe drove from Bochum to Rostock because she has a special connection to the missing youth Max. Little by little, Commissioner Katrin König and the half-sister of her ex-partner Bukow work together. It is not yet clear that Böwe will stay in Rostock and become part of the team.
