Police arrest man who abandoned dog under bridge

In the Oise, the police do not let anything slip when it comes to animal abuse. Soldiers from the Breteuil company, near Beauvais, carried out an investigation to find the owner of a dog voluntarily abandoned.

The report to the authorities dates back to October 22. It was walkers who alerted the police after discovering an abandoned puppy in Catheux, tied to a bush hidden under a bridge. According to the gendarmes, everything had been done to ensure that the animal was not found.

He admits the facts in police custody

Saved by the military, the little dog was handed over to a shelter. For their part, the gendarmes launched investigations to try to find the owner. A man was quickly identified and arrested. According to the gendarmerie, “he admitted the facts of voluntary abandonment” during his hearing.

The accused will not be judged for these facts, he will however be the subject of a criminal composition, next January, “a procedure which allows the prosecutor to propose one or more sanctions to a person who has committed certain offenses “. Indeed, according to the Penal Code, “abandonment is considered an act of abuse”. It is an act punishable by law which carries a penalty of “three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros”.

In addition to the fine, the amount of which will be determined by the public prosecutor’s office, the person placed in the case will have to pay reimbursement of the costs incurred by the town hall of Catheux for the care of the puppy.
