“The victim was riding a blue touring bike (…) equipped with two pairs of panniers at the front and back and a leopard-patterned saddle cover, coming from the North to the South,” according to the call for witnesses, broadcast Tuesday on the social network X by the Drôme police.

About thirty wounds

The review is accompanied by two photos and a description by Roberto Torres Pastor. Aged 27, he was found dying on the morning of October 7, 2021 by a walker on a forest path in the town of Soyons, near the banks of the Rhône. A native of the Canary Islands, the cyclist left the Netherlands and returned to Spain. He had stopped in Ardèche.

Seriously injured, he died in hospital. The autopsy revealed around thirty wounds caused by blows mainly to the head. “It is a singular homicide, a young cycle tourist who (…) was brutally attacked and was left for dead in a state which shows incredible savagery,” a source close to the case told AFP.

“It’s a complicated matter that takes time. We have many avenues to explore,” added this same source, adding that there had been “some feedback since the publication of the call for witnesses.” Judicial information is supervised by the criminal department of the Avignon public prosecutor’s office.
